Full Featured 2D Drafting

You can draw virtually anything with DesignCAD’s extensive text manipulation functions, dimensioning and annotation features. You have sophisticated editing features, advanced geometric construction capability, complete layer management and editing tools. AutoCAD® DWG/DXF Compatible & More

Work with files from other popular CAD programs like TurboCAD®, AutoCAD®, IntelliCAD™

Key Features:

New Document DesignCAD v20 is a versatile and easy-to-use CAD program is designed to help you get started quickly.

Smart Menus

DesignCAD now offers smart menus like those found in Microsoft Office®. Initially presented with a shortened list of available menu commands, to help reduce screen clutter, the menu can be expanded to show all items by clicking on the double arrows at the bottom of the menu. Great for learning, this option can be enabled or disabled depending on the user's preference.

Precision 2D Drafting

Intuitive yet sophisticated editing tools, advanced geometric construction capabilities, drawing short cut keys and complete layer management make 2D drafting a breeze.

  • Groups, Blocks, Symbols and more!
Associative Dimensions

Associative dimensions will automatically update as you change the size of the object they are associated with. For example, if a radial dimension is associated with a circle, when you change the radius of the circle using the Info Box, the associated radial dimension is automatically updated to match the new radius.

Added Flexibility when Sharing Your Work

  • Info Box - Roll out or more permanently open the info box to display the details of any selected object to help you speed through the design options, even if you’re still learning
  • User Notes – Add notes to any drawing.
  • Save for Sharing - When you save a drawing, all files referenced externally (textures, symbols, images) are saved to a subfolder with the host drawing’s name.
  • Paper Space Mode – Create a view frame and choose a specific scale or enter a custom view frame scale.
  • Print Scale Options - Select from a standard set of print scale options or create your own.
AutoCAD® DWG/DXF Compatible

Read and write AutoCAD® files through 2009 and enjoy excellent compatibility with AutoCAD® layouts and PaperSpace, plus support for AutoCAD® layers, linestyles, views, and blocks in both DXF and DWG file formats.

DesignCAD imports DWG, DXF, WMF, HPGL and XYZ files and exports to DWG, DXF, WMF, HPGL, WPG and PDF.

DesignCAD also supports several image formats including .BMP, .TIF, .JPG, .TGA, .WMF, .PSD, .AWD, .EPS, .WPG, .TIF, .PCX, and .PNG.

New Features:

New Naming with Import of Non-Native Drawings
When importing non-native drawings, such as DWG or DXF files, into an empty DesignCAD drawing, the drawing's name changes from "untitled" to match the import source file.

New Pack Group IDs Command
The new Pack Group IDs command allows the user to pack all Group IDs consecutively. It can be quite valuable when saving to an older DesignCAD drawing format, as some older versions supported a lot fewer groups than DesignCAD 20.

Improved Multilines
A "None" alignment option has been added to Multilines. This makes the multiline points align along the baseline (offset 0.0), rather than left, right or center; handy if a multiline style is not symmetrical about the baseline.

Improved Editing of Dimension Options
A "Scale Proportional" checkbox has been added to the Text Size field in the dimension info box and in the Dimension Text Options dialog box. If checked, changing the text size in the Info Box or Dimension Text Options dialog box resizes other measurements, such as arrowhead size, gap size, and overshoot, proportionally. Users still have the ability to independently change other settings as this only applies when changing the text size.

Improved Layer Options
An option has been added to Layer Options to “Automatically toggle by-layer settings”. When this option is off, moving to a layer with a preset linestyle or color updates the current linestyle and/or color, but doesn’t automatically turn on the Linestyle by Layer or Color by Layer flags.

Improved Grouping
A group entity’s layer no longer affects the visibility of group contents.

Improved Trimming of a line against a circle, arc, or closed shape Now when "Trim Picked Segments Only" is selected, the line will trim to the intersection closest to the point selected on the trimming shape rather than to the intersection closest to the original end of the line. If not selected, users can still trim against the closest segment of a polyline.

General Performance Enhancements include:

  • Improved Dimension Select
  • mproved PointXYZ key
  • Improved Paperspace fixed-width lines
  • Improved Intersect2 with Circles
  • Improved Circle Tangent to Two Lines
  • Improved Vertical Dimensions
  • Improved Bounding Box calculations
  • Improved Show/Hide Command Dialog box “Hide” command
  • Improved Enable Offscreen Bitmap option
  • Improved Move Origin
  • Improved interoperability with older versions of DesignCAD (17 and older) – Now saved dimensions are fully editable in the target version of DesignCAD
  • Arrowheads in Dim Progressive now correspond to user-selected arrowheads
  • Reverse Points in the Info Box is now enabled for MultiLine entities
Plus, some default settings have been change based on user input including Running Snaps OFF, Interruptible Snaps ON, Layer list shows all layers instead of named layers only

  • BasicCAD – added {SkipLayouts parameter for DwgIn and DxfIn commands to allow the user to specify whether or not to skip layouts when importing.
  • BasicCAD – extended dimensions weren't honoring the {Type parameter to create exploded dimensions.
  • Clicking on the bottom layer in the layer list in Dimension Options would scroll the layer list, instead of activating the intended control for that layer.
  • Improved the Linestyle and Color toolbar behavior to better indicate by-layer or by-entity colors and linetypes. Added LineStyle by Layer button to the Linestyle toolbar, and Color by Layer button to the Color toolbar.
  • Intersect-2 was not working correctly when the entities did not actually intersect.
  • Browsing for missing by-reference symbols sometimes caused DesignCAD to crash.
  • Images could not be copied from PDF files and pasted directly into DesignCAD.
  • A DesignCAD session started via Ole Automation would crash when the Print command was issue.
  • Allow Saving Empty Drawings moved from Save dialog box to General Options dialog box.
  • Improved Snap and Trim accuracy against curve entities.
  • Red and blue color channels were swapped when loading some TIFF image files.
  • Dimension Baseline offset field added to Dimension Options dialog box.
  • Paste button had been removed from the Dimension Options dialog. Now restored.
  • Improved XYZ file import.
  • Dimensions did not update onscreen after running the Units command. Save and re-load were required.
  • Panned viewframes at specific scales no longer shift when new objects are added after the viewframe was set up.
  • After re-defining a block, attribute definitions in existing instances of that block name would revert to the default text instead of retaining their original values.
